[there's no lead up to this post, no explanation. just a simple survey posted at some ridiculous hour in the morning]
1. What is a "Hero" to you?
2. What is a "Villain" to you?
3. Do you consider yourself to be either?

A hero is someone who protects others, even if it's hard. Especially if it's hard.
A villain hurts others when they don't have to.
Which I am probably depends on who you ask. I don't think the good I've done outweighs the bad, so I guess I'm working on it.
[ Just hoping no one pops on here to argue with her about it, at least not publicly. Or privately. In fact people she knows can just be quiet shhhh ]

Hm
I think a hero is someone that tries their best to do something right, even when it doesn't make sense or seems impossible. There's also, like, a showy-ness to being a hero? Like, lots of people do good things and try to, but, there's something dramatic about a hero, like, a character in a play! Showing up at the right time and with the right stuff to say
A villain, though
I dunno if real villains are a thing. Watching villains on TV or seeing them in comics
Mm
They feel simple. Evil for the sake of evil, more dramatics, and "fun" cruelty. But, the kinds of people I've seen are more complicated than that. People I thought were pure evil turned out to be hard to pin down or had reasons that didn't feel as simple as... something a villain does.
I'm definitely not a villain! I don't really think I'm much of a hero, either. Maybe I can be a bit dramatic, sometimes. At least, that's what other people say. I'm just trying to make a difference.

There are plenty of people out there who will hurt others just for the fun of it, or because they feel like it gives them something over the other person.

02.) someone self-serving in their thoughts and actions, who forces others to assimilate to their style of thinking and living, no matter the cost and what lives they sacrifice.
03.) no, i don't. i've been called both, but am neither. there was a time my people needed help, and i would gladly have watched the whole city burn to keep them safe.

2. Someone who doesn't care what happens to anyone else so long as they get what they want. They don't hurt people because they have to - it's because they can. There's no cost too great. They're more than just a bad person - a real villain is past the point of being saved, even if the hero never stops trying.
3. I don't know if am one, but I want to be a hero.

criminals ran amok
horrible folks could pay their way outta punishment
best you got were doctors or firefighters, but they can't do shit about someone who murdered five folks and payed their tab outta jail.
2. good question!
there are lots of meanings for that word right?
a lotta them are too murky to stick with if you ask me
but folks who hurt others for fun? nothing else?
there you go. villainous.
especially if they target folks who can't fight back.
3. nah.
i'm closer to what you'd call a vigilante
or a murderer
depends on where you're standing.
but i did my time
got my punishment
i'm dead now.
guess im the most "ex-villain" you could ever meet

3) That depends. A villain doesn't harbor the idea that what they're doing is wrong, do they? And a hero is so inflated by ego that they never perceive their actions anything more than just. But if a heroes inaction causes harm are they still considered one? And if a villains actions help those who are being subjugated, does that make them a villain? [ Granted the action he's taking is genocide but that's a whole other convo!!! ]
Such a subjective topic...it's almost as if you want to see people fight.

It ain't one or the other, just asking if you consider yourself one of them. It's fine if you're just an NPC, the world needs those.

is that truly your name? how must i pronounce that? will just grt do?
well, a hero mostly features in stories written by humans. in a way they shape the heroes, even if they are villains to begin with. in a way you can say that the roles can be exchanged. a hero can fall into ruin and become a villain. a villain can rise and become the hero. humans are wonderful like that.
i am but a weapon.

This is probably the weirdest response I've gotten so far though so congratulations. You sound like you've got a lot of baggage, Weapon-san.

The roles of heroes and villains is a stupid concept to begin with and perhaps only important to children. One can save an animal from certain death and be considered a hero. Another can eradicate an entire civilisation and be called a hero. Yet if that animal would die, it could have saved another animal from starving. And there is nothing heroic about killing innocent people.
[He knows this, he's been there. War crimes, genocide, the whole shebang. Blood on his hands, sins weighing heavily on his shoulders.]
If you insist on assigning these roles to others and find it impossible to think beyond such trivial matter, I have been what you call 'a villain'.
no subject
For the record, a good Hero is one that doesn't let any innocent civilians die in their vicinity. Any person that would kill an entire city of innocent people for whatever reason is just insane.

a hero is someone who stops them
and i'm a hero of course!!!
...but recently, i learned that its not always that simple. sometimes villains do things but they don't know that what they're doing is villain stuff, or the reasons behind it actually make a lot of sense and you can see why they acted that way?
i dunno. sometimes it gets confusing.
