[How does he go about asking this...? Well, he might as well go all in, right? Though politely. Always politely.]

Excuse me, I have a question for any and all of us who have experienced immortality.

Were you always immortal? If not, what was it like for you to first taste immortality? I understand the condition isn't a given in Ellipsa, but it does hold true in my world. My Master was immortal and now I wish I had asked her about it thoroughly.

[Cultivation is unique (particularly of the type he and Xue Yang practiced) and poor Xingchen is trying to adjust.]

[Any part of MK's spirit is welcome and Xingchen is just as warm, as healing to the monkey as he is to the human. ~~He thinks the monkey is cute, but he refrains from startling his poor friend.~~]

Nothing in here can hurt you. Nothing will. Rest your spirit.

[MK nods and keeps his eyes closed. He takes a breath in and lets it out. Trying to just rest. To relax. He's getting there slowly. Sinking into that state of just being here now. His brows furrow as the memories flash in his mind. He's trying and the wounded parts of his spirit throb and shine when he isn't trying to push them down.]

[Those wounded places are easily seen by Xingchen's mind's eye. He targets them, pouring in healing energy, easing the throb and dulling that painful shine. Under his breath, he recites a soothing mantra, circling them with a defensive barrier. Nothing outside can make this more difficult for his friend; he is keeping watch.]

[The wounds slowly start to stitch themselves together. A voice speaks up from inside MK.]

The magic won't fix everything. You know it. It won't fix me. Won't fix us.

[The voice startles him, but he doesn't break the connection between them.]

It will ease the pain and speed you toward healing. There will be scars, but you are strong.

[MK's brow furrows. He tries to take a breath but the wounds in his spirit throb more.]

Pain? All we do is cause pain. No matter what we do, it will always lead to pain.

[Xingchen offers more of himself, his brow furrowing as he concentrates, leading his spirit outward.]

That isn't the truth at all. MK has brought me nothing but happiness and friendship.

Give it time. We'll bring you pain eventually.

Not on purpose. [MK speaks up softly, still trying his best to meditate.]

Guess we'll find out.

We are friends. We will have good times and bad. That doesn't mean I will leave.

[Xingchen answers calmly.]

MK can depend on me and I know I can depend on him.

[The voice goes quiet. MK's spirit stills. Good and bad. They can depend on each other. It helps MK relax and keep meditating. The monkey lets out a slow breath.]

[He smiles and picks up his soft chanting again. The candles flicker and some time passes before he gently urges MK to wake:]

Slowly. Keep breathing deeply.

[MK breathes in and out. His breathing slowing between breathes.]

Hmmm. Huh? That was a little weird. Did it work?
