As long as the brain is still intact? That makes more sense than I'd like it to.

It's the only part of the body that really matters for the question. Everything else can be replaced, but damage to the brain is damage to the self. Even if you restore the cells themselves, the information they held will still be gone. Well, unless there are some soul shenanigans going on, but I'm no expert on those.
